The Rottweiler or Rottie is a large breed dog originating from Germany. The Rottweiler has a medium length coat which is predominantly black with small gingery to brown markings on the paws, muzzle and chest area, it has floppy ears that fold over half way and a long tail which is usually curled, the tail is usually cropped as this is favoured by breeders. There are two distinct breed of Rottweiler, the German and the American, the German being the more favoured. The difference between the two may be slight but the German has more of a wider and well formed head mostly resulting in the ears (when at attention) to be frontal and fold half way inline with the top of the skull. The Rottweiler makes an exceptional guard dog and a great family pet they normally have a low energy but if motivated can react at great speeds, they can also be trained to be a good attack dog and are used by military and police forces worldwide.
