The Boerboel or South African Mastiff is a strong large breed of dog originally bred by farmers for the protection of livestock. It is a great all round working dog. The Boerboel is a medium energy dog and as such needs a good amount of exercise and stimulation everyday. The appearance of the Boerboel is that it has a short light tanned coloured coat with a black mask and black nose, large floppy ears and medium jowls on its face, but in some cases they are known to be a stripy brindle colour but this is not desired in the breed standard. This breed is muscular in appearance and can in some cases grow to be extremely large. This dog would make a perfect watchdog or guard dog.
