The Cane Corso also known as the Italian Mastiff or Cane Da Macellaio, is a medium to large breed with large floppy ears, cropping of the ears is favoured by most breeders. The Cane Corso has a short fine black coat and this is favoured as the breed standard but they are known to some times be a tanned or grey colour. The Cane Corso is a low tempered breed which for the most part responds well to training and as long as they are socialized from a young age can work well around small children and other dogs. The breed can sometimes be suspicious of strangers and the owner would need to keep behaviours like this in check as if they go unchecked can lead to an aggressive dog. For the most part the Cane Corso is a quiet and reserved breed with a medium energy and as such they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. The Cane Corso would make a great companion for a family and would also make an extremely good guard dog.
